Bash.org quotes for Wanda the fish

Wanda the fish in panel
Cat and I were talking about Wanda the GNOME Fish, a pretty little fish which you can add to your GNOME panel. It tends to live a boring life, swimming through the frames of its animation, but sometimes it gets set free, able to roam about the screen, causing fishy havoc and mayhem for the poor user.

Anyhow, when you click on the fish in the panel, it provides you with interesting fortunes and quotations. Cat said how you can add offensive fortunes and I came up with the idea of retrieving quotes from bash.org for this little fishy to say.

I embarked on this valiant mission, with help from Cat, and we found various useful scripts to steal. After various hackish solutions, I ended up with a php script to scrape the random bash page and a perl script to get the quote generated by the php script and feed it to the fishy. Strange, but it works..most of the time.

You can see the php script in action or download the perl and php script as an archive.

Just set the perl script as the "Command to run when clicked" in the Fish preferences.
Quote from Wanda

The php script has now been improved by Sean, although he used some things which aren't supported in whatever version of PHP is on this server which I had to change.

And if you have wget, here's an even easier way, just add this line as the command:
wget -q -O - http://james.nerdiphythesoul.com/bash.php

thanks

Your really a life saver.
